Animal Assemblies

In collaborative groups we will be working as taxonomists to classify the animals from the animal cards. A taxonomist identify groups of animals that share a lot of features in common.

Think about a dragonfly, the ant and the human.

What features of these animals are similar?

How are they different?

Scientists just use a few key features to distinguish animals on these cards, into eleven different groups.

A branching key is a tool to help identify and classify objects.

A branching key includes questions to answer and arrows to follow until the object is classified.
